The unofficial results are in and Dave Armstrong will be advancing to the November General Election in a bid to represent the 67th District in the state Assembly.

Armstrong, a two-term incumbent who until new district maps were drawn earlier this year had represented the 75th Assembly District, defeated GOP challenger Jimmy Swenson 5,655-1,589 in Tuesday’s Partisan Primary.

With the nod from the GOP voters in the 67th District, Rice Lake’s Armstrong will go up against Democratic candidate Jeff Foster of Colfax in the November election.

    U.S. Senate

The AP called the GOP Primary race for Eric Hovde at 8:20 p.m. when he had 89.2% of the votes with 17% of votes counted. Now that he has defeated Charles E. Barman and Rejani Raveendran, he will face incumbent U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, who has held the Senate seat since 2013 for the Democrats.

Prior to the race being called, Hovde declared victory, saying his focus had been on defeating Baldwin and restoring the American dream.

“Tammy Baldwin has been in Washington for twenty-five years and things have only gotten worse,” Hovde said. “It’s time for change.”

According to Wisconsin Public Radio, Baldwin accused Hovde of running to put the “wealthy and well connected like himself first.”

“While I am running to put Wisconsin families first, my opponent Eric Hovde is a multi millionaire California bank owner who has insulted our seniors, our farmers, our moms, and just about everyone else in our great state,” Baldwin said.

    Amendments

Voters in the state rejected two amendments to the state Constitution that would have limited the power of the governor to spend federal funds without legislative approval and ban future Legislatures from abdicating this power.

According to AP unofficial results posted at 9:11 p.m., both referendums failed by a margin of about 58-42%.

Sides both for and against had vigorously campaigned leading up to the Partisan Primary, and it has been unusual for Wisconsin voters to reject Constitutional amendments.

    November election

The General Election is slated for Nov. 5 and will feature the Presidential race at the top of the ballot.

Former President Donald Trump, who was defeated by President Joe Biden in 2020, is the Republican candidate.

Biden initially had run for reelection on the Democratic ticket and had amassed enough delegates that he would have been named the nominee, but he bowed out of the race on July 21.

The president, who intends to serve out the remainder of his terms, endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris and she is now the presumptive nominee heading into the Democratic National Convention on Monday.

A Marquette University Law School poll released Aug. 7 showed Trump and Harris in a dead heat.

Among registered voters, Marquette’s latest poll shows Harris with 49% of the vote, compared to 50% for Trump. Among likely voters, the survey flips, showing Harris leading Trump, 50 to 49%.

The November General Election will be held Nov. 5.
