Indianhead Barbershop Chorus' Back to Barron concert set

    2024-08-22

The Indianhead Barbershop Chorus based in Polk County is spearheading an effort to bring barbershop music back to Barron County.

Chorus member Ken Gonske of Rice Lake is a former member of the Barron County Heart of the North Chorus that was formed in 1966 and disbanded in 2001. After it ended, Gonske joined the neighboring barbershop, which puts on an annual fall show.

The concert is Saturday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. at the Barron Area Community Center, 800 Memorial Drive, Barron, and Gonske said the Indianhead Chorus has agreed to bring barbershop music back to Barron again next year if there is enough interest to generate a sell-out crowd at the 450-seat auditorium at the upcoming event.

"Our goal for this pilot show is to fill the place," Gonske said. "If it flies, like we think it will, next year the chorus will bring in top quartets from all over the country for shows in Amery and Barron."

In addition to the 25-member Indianhead Chorus, the upcoming concert will include selections by two or three chapter quartets as well as a featured quartet, the Sweet Adelines Region 6 Quartet Champions.

Advance tickets are available at the Community Center as well as from Barron Music Club members and Indianhead Barbershop Chorus members, including Gonske, who can be reached at 715-234-4309 for more information.
