A person was injured Tuesday afternoon in Dunn County after a school bus struck a pickup truck, pushing it into an SUV.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, a Chevrolet pickup and a Ford Excursion were stopped at 3:54 p.m. on Highway B at the Interstate 94 interchange at the stop lights. A school bus approached both vehicles from the rear and was unable to stop in time, striking the pickup and pushing it into the SUV.

No one was injured on the bus, which was carrying approximately 45 children and was being driven by 68-year-old Douglas E. Tylee of Menomonie. The driver of the pickup, 58-year-old David D. Merten of Colfax, was transported to Mayo hospital in Menomonie for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The Excursion’s driver was 37-year-old Shawn A. Szalai of Menonomie.

Enforcement action against the bus driver is pending investigation by the State Patrol.

Assisting agencies included Dunn County Sheriff’s Department, Menomonie Police Department and Menomonie EMS.
