    Cross country: Cameron girls win invite at Solon Springs

    The Cameron girls cross country team took first place running at Monday's Solon Springs Invitational.

    Cameron scored 33 points to top the standings, 13 in front of runner-up Chequamegon. Inez Schmidt won the girls race for the Comets in a time of 19 minutes, and 46.6 seconds. This gave Schmidt a lead of 42 seconds at the finish line over runner-up Sophia Navarro of Northwestern.

    The Comets had three runners in the top 10 of the girls race as Bridgette Mohns placed sixth in 21:00.2 and Lexi Kuffel was right behind in seventh at 21:11.2. Cameron also had Anna Baribeau take 18th, and Caitlynn Cooper was the final scoring runner after placing 24th.

    Jaden Reed had a top-10 finish for Cameron in the boys race. The Comets were in fourth at 130 points. Host Solon Springs/Northwood won with 72 points, three in front of Unity in second.

    Reed completed the course in 17:14.7, and Preston Eldred took 12th for the Comets in 17:44.9. Scoring runners also included Chase Hauck in 36th, Jackson Griffin in 39th and Ryker Ebert in 50th.

    Ladysmith's Gavin Stewart won the boys race in 16:02.3, an advantage of 32 seconds on Solon Springs/Northwood's Isaac Dickenson in second.

    The next time the Comets are back on the course is at the Heart O' North Conference meet Oct. 15 at Chetek-Weyerhaeuser High School.
