Former Rice Lake man sentenced to prison
A former Rice Lake man was sentenced to prison on Tuesday for possessing child pornography. Blaize B. Mayes, 20, who had moved to Texas, was charged on Nov. 13 in Barron County Circuit Court with child sexual exploitation and possession of child pornography, both felonies. Mayes pleaded guilty on May 10 to the count of possessing child porn while the other charge was dismissed but read into the record. At his sentencing hearing on Tuesday, Judge Maureen D. Boyle gave Mayes an eight-year prison sentence, with three years of confinement and five years of extended supervision. Conditions include that he register as a sex offender, and he may not have unsupervised access to the internet or contact with any minors.
Child porn conviction nets man prison sentence
An Almena man convicted of possessing child pornography was sentenced to a 13-year prison term on Tuesday in Barron County Circuit Court. Charles P. Lambert, 57, had faced 10 felony charges of possession of child porn when he pleaded guilty on March 29 to one while the other nine were dismissed but read into the record. Judge Maureen D. Boyle sentenced Lambert on Tuesday to 13 years in prison, with eight years of confinement and five years on extended supervision. Conditions include that he register as a sex offender, and he may not have unsupervised access to the internet or contact with any minors.
Woman sentenced to probation on drug charges
A Madison woman who had pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of narcotic drugs was sentenced to probation after the judge stayed prison time. Three felonies and one misdemeanor had been filed on Aug. 21 in Barron County Circuit Court against Trisanthoni R. Vincent, 43. The felonies were for possession of cocaine with intent to deliver, possession of meth with intent to deliver and possession of narcotic drugs. The misdemeanor was for possession of cocaine. ...

The Chronotype has been published since 1874, making it the oldest continually operated business in Barron County. In August 2014, the company was purchased by Adams Publishing Group, from third generation family ownership. The Early Bird is a free circulation newspaper/advertising shopper published on Fridays. It covers all of Barron and most of Rusk counties, with a circulation of 28,000. The Early Bird includes area news, information, entertainment and advertising. It is the most economical cost per household delivered of any print media in the area.
