Harness horse racing to start fair's grandstand events
The first two nights of the Barron County Fair will again feature harness horse racing for grandstand events. Harness racing has a post time of 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, and Thursday, July 18. Harness horse racing history at the fairgrounds dates back to the 1800s. The fairgrounds has a pacing record of one minute, 56 and 2/5 seconds by PV Miracle Mary in 2017 and a trotting record of 1:59.1 by Bordogna in 2020. The Rice Lake races are the second of seven races during the Wisconsin Harness Horse Association schedule. Last year the races were reduced to one night after a storm dumped hail and rain on the track on the first day of the fair.

Children invited to Good News Club at Shudlick Park
Children ages 5-11 are invited to a Summer Good News Club, sponsored by Child Evangelism Fellowship, to take place July 22-26 from 1-2:30 p.m. at Shudlick Park, 701 Hatten Ave., Rice Lake. Faith Lutheran Church of Cameron to celebrate 115 years
On Sunday, July 14, the members of Faith Lutheran Church in Cameron will celebrate 115 years with a special worship service at 9:30 a.m. A picnic potluck will be held after service in the church basement. The Faith Council and members are excited to celebrate this anniversary, especially at a time when attendance is smaller and the future uncertain. Three members of the congregation were baptized in the church and are still lifelong members. Faith Lutheran is a member of the Northwest Synod ELCA and a partner of a two-part parish with Trinity Lutheran in Rice Lake.
