Voters in Wisconsin’s 67th Assembly District may choose between two men vying on the Aug. 13 Primary Election ballot to become the GOP candidate who will face Democrat Jeff Foster of Colfax in November.

Dave Armstrong is the two-term incumbent from Rice Lake being challenged by Jimmy Swenson of Barron, who was chair of the Republican Party of Barron County until the State Republican Party revoked the county party’s charter earlier this year.

The Chronotype asked the two GOP candidates why they are seeking to become the Republican candidate for the 67th Assembly District seat, what were the top two important issues that affect 67th District residents’ lives that they intended to prioritize if elected and what policies they would pursue to address these issues.

    Here are their responses:

ArmstrongI am running to be the representative for the 67th Assembly District to continue the work I began in my first two terms. I passed bills that reduced income and property tax across the board. The governor vetoed many of the bills. I was involved in crafting legislation for additional housing which passed the legislature and were signed into law.

I was cosponsor to a number of agricultural bills that were passed by the legislature and were signed into law by the governor and I sponsored bills to secure our border.

There are a lot of lies and misrepresentations being spread about what I’ve accomplished in my four years in the Assembly. I have nothing to hide as you can view my entire voting record on my Assembly website. I am a Reagan compassionate conservative and am proud of that.

I appreciate the trust the voters have shown me and look forward to representing the new 67th Assembly District.

SwensonI entered this Assembly race because I care about the people of Wisconsin, not special interest groups, or selling out to China. I’m providing an alternative that will stop taking advantage of you. Your choice in this Republican primary is to continue supporting the establishment candidate, or vote for me, Jimmy Swenson, who believes in spending cuts, smaller government, and for everyone to live the American Dream.

In Wisconsin, conservative candidates like me are running Assembly campaigns in 25 of 99 districts against establishment incumbents like Armstrong. These Uni-Party supporters are using unlimited money, spreading rumors, and telling lies to keep their power. Your current state senator posted on social media he would rather sell his firstborn son than lose power, which is very strange, and a big warning sign.

Armstrong calls himself “A Trusted Conservative,” but that’s not true. This is either because he’s only looking out for himself, or he doesn’t understand “conservative.” Because of his actions, your cost of living increased, it’s more expensive to feed your family and your taxes will go up.

Here are six reasons why Armstrong’s voting negatively affects you.

    David Armstrong:

    1) Voted for, and increased spending from $40 to $100 billion twice.

    2) Imports low-wage foreign workers, sacrificing citizen’s jobs and your financial security.

    3) Promotes socialist economics claiming, “The American Dream doesn’t work.”

    4) Voted for 14-plus week abortions, standing against our current state law.

    5) Is an Anti-Trump’er contributing monthly donations to Nikki Haley’s presidential campaign committee.

    6) Authored one bill in four years that became law, funding his own job of economic development.

Armstrong’s record doesn’t help poor or middle-class Americans. His votes in the Assembly don’t match the things you read in the mailers you receive. You should ask, “Why does he call himself a true conservative when his votes show otherwise?” Maybe he’s counting on the state retirement benefits if he’s reelected.

Both of your state elected officials coordinating with a county elected official are using their power to take down my campaign signs instead of focusing on what you need. David Armstrong hasn’t addressed anything to improve healthcare, border security, education, and making sure elections are fair.

Truth does not require participation to exist, however lies and deceit require mimicking.

Common sense puts rumors to rest. Armstrong is hoping you don’t use common sense.

The citizens of Wisconsin need representation that defends your freedom. Please review David Armstrong’s campaign finance report to see who he really represents. It surely isn’t you!

The truth is what they fear the most. We have the receipts showing the facts.

Please visit my website at jimmyforwi.com. I’m asking for your vote Aug. 13.

Please help make America great again.

Editor’s Note: For clarification, when the State Republican Party revoked the charter of the Republican Party of Barron County the county organization and its leadership were dissolved.
