The Summit County Transportation Improvement District was awarded $175,000 to support infrastructure development in Richfield, according to a press release from the Summit County Executive's Office.

Richfield will use the funds to help pay for the construction of new public roads and utility extensions to undeveloped land off Wheatley Road, per the release. The funds will support Richfield's Crossroads District , which encompasses 550 acres intersected by Wheatley and Brecksville roads near Interstate-271, I-77 and Congress Parkway.

The public roads and utility extensions will pave the way for a 100-room hotel, a 7,500-square-foot restaurant and a 5,000-square-foot event center, according to the release.

"Infrastructure is not always the most exciting topic, but it is the backbone of economic growth that supports good paying jobs and stronger communities,” Executive Ilene Shapiro said in a prepared statement. “We will continue to leverage the Transportation Improvement District and our track record of competitive applications as we seek to support all 31 Summit County communities.”

The development of the three businesses could create nearly $20 million in capital investment and 65 full-time equivalent jobs, according to the release.

“The Village of Richfield appreciates Summit County’s efforts to support the Crossroads District. Working together, we submitted a competitive application and secured an award that will offset our local costs for this important infrastructure work,” Richfield Mayor Michael Wheeler said in a prepared statement. “When complete, we expect this project to bring significant private investment to our village.”
