TAZEWELL, VA (LOOTPRESS) – Former Executive Director of the Richlands Teen Venture program, Ann Marie Burks has been indicted on multiple charges including conspiracy, forgery, and distribution of narcotics among others.

The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office reports that hundreds of hours of investigation have gone into the indictment, leading to the arrest of Burks on Monday night in Chesterfield County by members of the Chesterfield Police Department. At the time of writing, Burks is being held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond.

“This has been a very important case for the Richlands Community,” said Assistant Commonwealth Attorney, Jessica Gunter. “There is still work to be done and Mrs. Burks is innocent until proven guilty in court. We are very confident of these charges and will vigorously prosecutive them.”

Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy, Major Herald Heatley spoke of the department’s vigilant efforts to pursue leads in relation to the investigation.

“Our agency was asked by Chief Ron Hold of Richlands Police Department to take the lead on this investigation as his agency may have had a conflict. We jumped into this and have aggressively followed every lead traveling to Tennessee and various banking institutions to ensure we presented the best case possible,” said Heatley. “There have been countless hours put in to investigating this case and we couldn’t be prouder of the work our detectives have put in on this case.”

Former Teen Venture Director Burks faces charges of two counts of Distribution of a Schedule I/II Narcotic, one count of Misdemeanor Receiving Money/Property by False Pretenses, one count of Conspiracy, and two counts of Forgery.

An arraignment date will be issued in the near future and the Virginia State Supreme Court will follow the progression of the proceedings.
