Championship spotter and Bristol native Bob Jeffrey passes away after cancer battle
Bob Jeffrey, a championship spotter in both the NASCAR Cup Series and the Indy Car Series, passed away after battling cancer. He was 65 years old. Bob was a native of Bristol and attended Tennessee High before his family moved to West Virginia before his senior year of high school. He returned to the area to pursue a career in racing, working for Henderson Motorsports and Ed Whitaker Racing as a tire changer.

Capitol Region Military Alliance of Virginia First Inaugural Business Meeting Held
On July 11, America's newest military advisory council, known as the Capitol Region Military Alliance of Virginia, held its inaugural meeting. The event brought together business leaders, government officials, military personnel, military service organizations, educators, and civic leaders to support national defense and enhance the quality of life in our region. CaRMA serves the three military installations of Fort Gregg-Adams, Fort Barfoot, and Defense Supply Center - Richmond, and brings business, government, military, military service organizations, education, civic leaders together to support national defense and quality of life for the region. The initiative is supported by the three installations, the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Crater Planning District Commission, local governments that surround the installations, and chambers of commerce that serve the region. Kenova man faces several charges in the kidnapping of a Huntington woman, troopers say
PRICHARD, W.Va. (WCHS) — A Kenova man has been arrested and faces several charges in connection to the kidnapping of a woman from Huntington, troopers said. Richard Pennington, 33, was arrested just after midnight Saturday. He surrendered to investigators following a manhunt after a Huntington woman said he had kidnapped her, according to a news release from West Virginia State Police.
Oakton, Hamlet, Highlands among local division diving champs
Four local summer diving teams in the GazetteLeader’s coverage areas won division championships in the Northern Virginia Swimming League. The Oakton Otters, with a 4-1 record, finished first in Division I for the third year in a row. Overall the division crown was the team’s fourth straight, winning Division II in 2021.
