Vehicle vs. pedestrian crash in Rincon leaves one person seriously injured
RINCON, Ga. (WSAV) – The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office says a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash happened on S. Columbia Ave. near Babcock Furniture in Rincon around 11 a.m. on Saturday. Officials say the pedestrian was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Both lanes of Highway 21 were closed for investigation. It has since re-opened.
Chatham County Woman Indicted for Fraudulently Claiming Deceased Army Veteran’s Benefits
The divorced spouse of a deceased U.S. Army veteran has been indicted on federal charges for fraudulently claiming the veteran’s benefits. Miranda Rachel Briggs, also known as “Miranda Rachel Fisher,” 33, of Rincon, Georgia, was indicted by a U.S. District Court Grand Jury on charges of Wire Fraud and Theft of Government Money, Property, or Records, according to Jill E. Steinberg, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia. Conviction on the charges carries a statutory penalty of up to 20 years in prison, along with substantial financial penalties.
