RICHMOND, Ind. — A Richmond man is accused of breaking into two local homes, in one case moving into one of the houses without the permission — or knowledge — of its owner.

Robert Allen Bragg, 47, was charged Monday in Wayne Superior Court 1 with burglary, a Level 5 felony carrying up to six years in prison.

In that case, the owner of a home in the 5000 block of U.S. 27 reported finding Bragg and a woman inside the house on May 27.

Bragg tried to persuade Wayne County sheriff's deputies he had rented the house, which he claimed had been advertised on Craigslist. However, he was unable to provide information, including a name, of the person who had rented him the property.

The house's owner — who said he had lived elsewhere in recent months — maintained he did not know Bragg and had not rented the property.

Property removed from the house, including tools, was found in a car parked nearby.

In another Wayne Superior Court 1 case filed on June 7, Bragg is charged with burglary, battery resulting in bodily injury and battery.

In that case, Bragg is accused of breaking into a home in the 1800 block of Potterfield Road on Sept. 23.

That homeowner said he returned home to find a burglar — later identified as Bragg — inside. He also said his brother had fired gunshots at the intruder, who fled from the house through a window.

The intruder — who struggled with the homeowner before fleeing — was reported to have stolen firearms from the house.

On May 24, deputies received the results of Indiana State Police lab testing that reportedly showed Bragg's DNA had been found on a shirt, a pack of cigarettes and a lighter found at the crime scene.

The burglary count in that case is a Level 3 felony carrying up to 16 years in prison.

Bragg is also charged with being a habitual offender, which could result in a longer sentence should he be convicted of the pending charges.

According to court records, he has been convicted of crimes including burglary, possession of meth and theft.
