    Richmond Police save person attempting to jump from bridge

    DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Two members of the Richmond Police Department are being recognized for their recent actions.

    Officer Tyler Saunders and Sergeant Brett Haskett responded to an emergency call at the Lamar Lundy Bridge in Richmond, Indiana. Upon arrival, Saunders and Haskett found an individual on the bridge thinking about ending their life.

    According to RPD , the law enforcement members communicated with the person for about 90 minutes, eventually getting them to step away from the edge of the bridge.

    The individual decided to listen to police and seek help.

    “The exemplary performance by Officer Saunders and Sgt. Haskett demonstrates exactly the professionalism, competence, and empathy that the men and women of the Richmond Police Department ascribe themselves to,” said Kyle Weatherly, chief of Richmond Police Department.

    Both Saunders and Haskett had recently completed a training course which helps with communication and techniques to resolve conflicts safely, according to police.
