For those who were already aware that Uranus was coming soon to Richmond, don't fret, they still are!

It's just a little later than they had hoped, as plans to open early this summer have now been delayed to late fall or early winter.

For those who were unaware of Uranus' arrival here or have no idea what it is, I have a great story for you!

Uranas will be located at the former site of New Creations Chapel and Boarding School. Richmond is Uranus Fudge Factory & General Store's third location. They also plan to relocate its distribution center from Missouri in hopes of providing a fun experience for everyone, along with a little laughter.

    👩‍💼 Questions with a community leader 👨‍💼

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=0FeUOK_0uc3udAG00

This week, I interviewed Richmond Community Schools Superintendent Dr. Curtis Wright, who has been in his position for four years.

Q: How did you end up in your role?

After spending many years in the classroom as a history teacher, I then transitioned into school administration and served as the Dean of Students, assistant principal, principal and central office leader, and then eventually the vacancy was posted and I know that I was contacted and the rest is history. I just have a true profound appreciation, respect and love for the privilege that I have to serve the community that served me for so long.

Q: What is your favorite part of your job?

This selfless service, growing up here in Richmond, we all learned back then, to commit to something that was bigger than oneself, and within the profession of education, which is a very noble profession, we're afforded that opportunity on daily basis.

The selflessness that comes with our faculty, our staff, stakeholders and others who are pouring into so many students, that's what I love the most. Just being able to assist in the evolution of youngsters, because again, as the old 80s song goes, children are our future. If we abide by that and do right by them, then they'll do right by one another and this whole thing called life will continue to revolve.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?

What little free time that I do have, I just love pouring back into my family, first and foremost, as they pour into me. Just being in the presence and being in the moment with my wife, my children, my immediate, extended friends and even strangers, just interacting with fellow human beings, that's what I enjoy most.

Many folks may find it to be a surprise but a few folks may have seen me cruising around on my motorcycle, and when I get a chance to find an open road, it becomes very therapeutic. I'm able to let my hair down and really just steal away the time out in amongst the fray of the world.

Thank you for taking the time to read through today's newsletter. I always appreciate any story tips you may have to better serve you and the city of Richmond. My email address is eweaver@gannett.com and you can follow me on X (@evan_weaver7).

    See you tomorrow!
