ETNA, Maine (WABI) - As the seasons change, so does the harvest of fresh fruits and vegetables. While most of us are savoring the last few weeks of summer left, local farmers are looking towards the fall as they prepare for apple season. “Really, we start in the early spring, we don’t really have any time off here,” describes manager of Conant Orchards Hannah Hegarty of the preparation. “We open the first weekend of August, but all summer and all spring, we’re, you know, taking care of the trees and the orchard and getting ready for Pick Your Own.”

Vassalboro planners hear request to amend subdivision
The three leaders of Augusta’s All Season Home Improvements company met with Vassalboro Planning Board members on Aug. 6 to talk about amending a nine-year-old subdivision. The 2015 plan was for land on Church Hill Road; it included a dead-end road named Karen Lane that runs southeast off Church Hill Road near the Augusta line. Robert Grieg, Robert “Bobby” Grieg and Carl Brickett explained that the plan had two lots for single-family homes and a larger “parcel” that was to provide space for seven duplexes sharing a common septic system.
Augusta Civic Center prepares for upcoming back to school giveaway
AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - As we get closer to a new school year, kids in the Augusta area in need of school supplies are in luck. The Greater Augusta Area Back to School Program is hosting a Back to School event this Sunday. Filling the Augusta Civic Center with over 1500 backpacks stuffed with various school supplies, the group encourages any child to pick up their free supplies ahead of the upcoming school year.
