    Richmond and head football coach Russ Huesman agree to a contract extension

    RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The University of Richmond and Spiders head football coach Russ Huesman have agreed to a contract extension according to a press release from the school.

    Huesman is entering his eighth season as the head coach at Richmond and as coached the Spiders to back-to-back FCS playoff appearances over the past two seasons.

    Alongside the announcement, Richmond athletic director John Hardt released the following statement. “Russ has consistently demonstrated his ability to produce winning college football teams that proudly represent their university on and off the playing field,” said Hardt. “He’s played a major role in so many of the greatest Spider football accomplishments, including our national championship and back-to-back NCAA playoff appearances. I’m excited to see Russ and the Spiders defend their CAA title this season, and I’m looking forward to working with Russ and his staff on a successful transition to the Patriot League in 2025.”

    Huesman also released a statement following the news of the extension saying “I take great pride in our program and the success we’ve achieved, including back-to-back playoff appearances. I want to extend my thanks to John Hardt and President Kevin Hallock for their unwavering support of both me and our entire program. I am eager to build on our achievements and continue leading the Spiders to even greater success moving forward,”

    Richmond will begin its 2024 campaign on August.31 at Virginia.

    Terms of the extension were not disclosed.
