RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The University of Richmond’s Modlin Center for the Arts is hosting the world premiere of an opera based on the debut novel by author Garth Greenwell.

According to the university, “What Belongs to You” will premiere at the Modlin Center on Thursday, Sept. 26, and Saturday, Sept. 28. A panel discussion and Q&A session will take place on Friday, Sept. 27, in the Alice Jepson Theatre.

The opera tells the story of a “long, unstable, and ultimately destructive affair,” according to Grammy-nominated composer David T. Little, who composed the music.

“The story is specific and personal, but the experience Greenwell describes is universal: the search for self and the desire to belong amidst loneliness and enduring heartbreak,” Little said.

The opera is directed by Mark Morris and conducted by Alan Pierson. The set and consume design was done by Maile Okamura and lighting design was done by Nicole Pearce.

Tickets for the premiere can be found here .
