‘I’m most excited for fireworks:’ 67th annual Dogwood Dell Fourth of July celebration

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — As Americans across Central Virginia celebrate Independence Day, Dogwood Dell in Richmond’s Byrd Park stands out as a prime destination for families and patriots alike.

The annual festivities, now in their 67th year and dubbed “The Big Show,” promise an evening filled with music and a spectacular fireworks display.

Live music performances kick off at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Attendees will be treated to performances by the Richmond Jazz Band and the Richmond Concert Band at the historic Dogwood Dell Amphitheater. These performances are set to captivate the audience with a blend of patriotic tunes and classic melodies.

For many, the highlight of the evening is the highly-anticipated fireworks extravaganza, scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. sharp. Spectators are encouraged to arrive early to secure optimal viewing spots, ensuring a comfortable experience under the summer sky. Organizers advise attendees to stay hydrated and cool throughout the event.

Alexis Wright, a first-time attendee representing Kona Ice at the event, told 8News about how excited she was for the event.

“Honestly, I’m most excited about the music and, of course, the fireworks. That’ll be fun,” Wright said. “I’m most excited to see all the people, sell some shaved ice — so it should be a really great day!”

The event, known for its family-friendly atmosphere and community spirit, offers free admission to all and continues to draw crowds over the entire holiday weekend with additional performances lined up.
