Flood watch in effect through Friday evening

RICHMOND, Va. -- FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT tonight through Friday evening. There is the potential for multiple inches of rain.

Pockets of heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue on and off through late this afternoon. Some Flash Flooding has been occurring and will be possible through this evening. Nearly 2" of rain has fallen in some areas, and the potential for 1-3" more will be possible through late afternoon. The high will only be in the low 80s this afternoon.
Rainfall rates in excess of an inch of rain within 30 minutes will be possible, so areas that receive batches of slow-moving thunderstorms will pick up multiple inches of rain.

Saturday will be hot and muggy with scattered showers and storms possible. Highs will be in the upper 80s and lower 90s.

Final rainfall totals from Thursday night through Saturday evening could exceed four inches in some locations.

Sunday will be hot and humid with a slim thunderstorm chance, and highs in the low to mid 90s.

It will be hot and muggy next week with highs near 100 Monday-Wednesday. Scattered storm chances will increase mid-week. Highs will fall back into the 80s later in the week.
