RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The City of Richmond has announced registration openings for two community engagement sessions regarding the potential development of the city’s first-ever solar farm and meadow.

The project, if approved, could transform around 30 acres of land once used for landfills into a sustainable energy hub and pollinator garden.

There would be a ground-mounted solar array designed to generate clean and renewable energy, as well as a pollinator garden established underneath the panels.

The garden would support local biodiversity by providing a habitat for essential pollinators like bees and butterflies.

The schedule of community engagement sessions is as follows:

    • Session 1
      • Date: Thursday, July 18
      • Time: 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
      • Location: EDI Pop-Center 701 North 25th Street
    • Session 2
      • Date: Wednesday, July 24
      • Time: 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
      • Location: Powhatan Community Center – 5051 Northampton Street

To register for both meetings, click here.

Residents are invited to these sessions to share thoughts, ask questions and learn more about the potential project. These sessions will help provide opportunities for the community to contribute to the project’s planning and development.
