RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Animal League (RAL) will be hosting its first-ever rescue roundup on Saturday, which aims to find homes for furry friends in need.

8News heard from Allana Maiden, social media and communications at RAL, Lindsey Covington, senior manager of canine lifesaving, and one special pup, Lovebug, who described all that the event entails.

“Tomorrow, we’re having RAL’s first-ever rescue roundup, where we’re inviting some of our animal control partner shelters to bring dogs to Richmond Animal League so we can try to find adoptive homes for them,” Maiden said.

Maiden further explained the inspiration behind the event, saying that it all comes back to the organization’s mission to provide hope, help and homes to animals in need.

“We focus our efforts on our animal control partner shelters; we partner with over 30 shelters in Virginia by pulling pets from their shelters when they’re faced with making difficult decisions regarding kennel space,” Maiden said.

Even Lovebug, one of the organization’s playgroup rockstars, had much to say about the excitement of the event.

The event on Saturday, July 20 will span from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the lawn right next to the organization’s shelter, located at 11401 International Drive in Richmond.
