    VA Democrats endorse VP Kamala Harris to be democratic nominee

    RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) – The Democratic Party of Virginia (DPVA), headquartered in Richmond, announced in a post on X they are endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to be the 2024 democratic nominee.

    According to the post, delegates with DPVA met virtually on July 22 and voted unanimously to endorse Harris to be the democratic nominee for the 2024 presidential election. This comes just two days after Biden announced he is dropping out of the race.

    DPVA Chairwoman Susan Swecker released a statement on the endorsement which can be read in full below:

    At this critical time, our 119-person delegation joins President Biden in giving our unequivocal endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris. Our delegation knows that Vice President Harris is the right choice and leader not only to unify our party, but our country. The Virginia Democratic Delegation is thrilled to cast our votes for her historic nomination and support an incredible former senator and prosecutor in defeating convict Donald Trump this November.

    The Democratic National Convention is scheduled to be held from Aug. 19-22 in Chicago, where the nominee will then be chosen.
