RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Police Department is scheduled to conduct a hazardous materials (HAZMAT) spill training exercise at the school’s Monroe Park Campus on Thursday, July 25.

According to the university, the training will take place outside of University Student Commons, which is located on the 900 block of Floyd Avenue, and will involve around 150 participants, as well as other state and local agencies.

The training is intended to “provide public health and safety teams and first responders with the opportunity to practice a coordinated emergency response on VCU’s campus.” VCU Police will send an alert over text before the training begins.

University Students Commons, the Grace E. Harris Hall auditorium and the walkway that connects the two buildings will be closed on the day of the training. North Linden Street, Floyd Avenue and North Cherry Street will also be closed in the area.
