Multiple new coffee shops are opening up in Richmond

Four new-to-market coffee chains are set to make their debuts in Richmond in the coming months.

Why it matters: Coffee is awesome. Shops that serve it up as delicious blended drinks with a side of baked goods are awesomer.

State of play: American coffee consumption is at its highest level in more than 20 years, and it appears coffee chains are in expansion mode to meet the demand.

First up, Charlottesville's Mudhouse Coffee is set to open its first spot in town next week at 418 W. Broad St. in the Arts District.

• The location, one block west of Lift and Birdie's , has been in the works since before the start of the pandemic, BizSense reported last year .
• Now it'll open Aug. 1 with soft opening hours running daily 7am-1pm, per the Times-Dispatch . Coffee, espresso drinks and Flour Garden baked goods are on the menu.
• Mudhouse is the second coffee chain out of Charlottesville to open in Richmond; Grit entered the local market in 2019 and now has two RVA spots.

Down in Chesterfield, 7 Brew , an Arkansas-based drive-thru coffee chain, plans to open three Richmond locations by the end of the year, all in Chesterfield, WRIC reports .

• Their first Richmond spot at 11 Le Gordon Drive near Charter Colony should open this summer.

Nebraska-based Scooter's Coffee , another chain that specializes in standalone drive-thru coffee shops, is planning to open four Richmond-area locations by next summer, per the Times-Dispatch .

• No locations were shared, but the franchisee said they'll focus on the suburbs.

Foxtail Coffee Co . out of Florida just inked a deal to open its first Virginia location in the Whole Foods shopping center in Short Pump, according to BizSense .

• Foxtail specializes in coffee drinks, plus cold-brew and swanky interiors. See a sample food menu .
• The Short Pump location should open in the fall and have ample indoor and outdoor seating.
