It is with great sadness and broken hearts to announce the unexpected passing of John A. Smolinski at 72 years old. John left this earth comforted by his sisters and family at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, VA as he peacefully went home to Heaven on Monday, July 15, 2024, from a catastrophic hemorrhagic stroke.

Preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Eugene (Smolinski). John has left behind his beloved and dedicated sisters, Gina Rieber (Robert) and Juliann Hilterbrant (Tom); niece Christina (Brad) Sitterson; great grand nephew Noah Sitterson; niece Autumn Sitterson; and many loving, long-time friends all of which he cherished.

John was a very independent, kind-hearted, caring man who left a great impression on everyone he met. His laughter and sense of humor were infectious. The bond and dedication that he and his sisters shared were evident to all.

John spent his life in service as a Psychologist for the Board of Education in Brooklyn, NY. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading books, watching classic movies, and listening to music. He especially enjoyed the Twist! John led a full life but always found time for his loved ones.

A heart of gold has stopped and the world has lost a great man.

A visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 8 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 4491 Springfield Road, Henrico, VA 23060.
