Take home a senior pet, try some local brews during Richmond SPCA’s ‘Frosty Mugs’ event

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Richmond SPCA is waiving adoption fees on senior pets and offering a taste of some local brews through Sunday during its “Frosty Mugs” event.

Until Sunday, Aug. 4, qualified adopters can take home a pet aged 8 or older without paying an adoption fee, according to a July 30 press release from the Richmond SPCA.

“Although seniors are sometimes overlooked in favor of younger pets, there are many advantages to adopting a mature pet who already has training and enjoys life at a slower pace,” the release reads.

In partnership with Richmond brewery Hardywood, adopters will also receive coupons to visit its tasting room — hence the event’s name, “Frosty Mugs.”

The adorable 9-year-old Roxanne, a senior dog who has reportedly been looking for a home since March, tried her own dog-safe frosty mug to help promote the event.

“Her pint glass contained a very unappealing mix of broth and whipped cream, but it made her nub wag,” a Richmond SPCA spokesperson said of Roxanne’s drink of choice.
