Comedian, TikTok star Leah Rudick shares her inspiration ahead of performance in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Comedian and TikTok sensation Leah Rudick spoke with 8News anchors Autumn Childress and Delaney Hall ahead of her performance at the Richmond Funny Bone Comedy Club Wednesday evening.

When asked what attendees can expect at the show, Rudick said she will perform an hour of stand-up comedy about her life, her experience growing up in the Midwest and with a few characters that she’s known for.

Rudick further described her background in comedy and how she began playing different characters.

“I have a background in sketch comedy, I came up in New York doing characters and stuff, and then when the pandemic hit, I got on TikTok and I started doing a bunch of different characters,” Rudick said.

Rudick further explained one viral character — the “Wealthy Woman” — which did particularly well online.

“The Wealthy Woman really took off, who is this sort of oblivious, rich woman who goes to these sort of everyday, boring, basic places and is delighted by the normalcy of middle-class living,” Rudick said.

Rudick said that some fans have mistaken her for Wealthy Woman, though she thinks most people realize that she’s putting on a character.

When she described the background behind the character, Rudick said she believes it could have come partly from working for wealthy people in the past, and also from her mother’s positivity and tendency to find joy in the simplest things.
