    National Weather Service Issues Heat Advisory for Several Central Va. Areas

    Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for several Central Virginia areas.

    The NWS issues a heat advisory when the heat index temperature is expected to be 100 degrees or higher for at least two days, and night time air temperatures are not expected to drop below 75 degrees.

    The following Central Virginia areas are under a heat advisory from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1.

    • Brunswick County
    • Caroline County
    • Charles City County
    • Dinwiddie County
    • Chesterfield County
    • Colonial Heights
    • Essex County
    • Hanover County
    • Henrico County
    • City of Richmond
    • King William County
    • King and Queen County
    • Greensville County
    • James City County
    • Lancaster County
    • Middlesex County
    • New Kent County
    • Northumberland County
    • Prince George County
    • Richmond County
    • Sussex County

    An excessive heat watch will be in effect in the morning of Friday, Aug. 2 through the evening. According to the National Weather Service, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values at or above 110 degrees are possible on Friday.

    “A ‘Watch’ is used when the risk of a heat wave has increased but its occurrence and timing is still uncertain,” the NWS said on its website.

    Central Virginia residents are advised to limit time outdoors, stay hydrated, and take frequent breaks in the shade or in air conditioning while outdoor temperatures are high.
