RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — 804 Day is returning to Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom on Friday for its second year in a row, offering live music, food vendors and other festivities.

Ahead of Friday’s celebrations, 8News anchors Autumn Childress and Delaney Hall spoke with Reese Williams, CCO and production coordinator of the event’s organizer, Shockoe Records.

Attendees will be able to enjoy four different stages where local groups live music, including one for VIPs.

Williams described all that the event offers, with an emphasis on the Richmond area.

“It is a hometown celebration of all things Richmond. It is hyper local; local bands, local artists, nonprofits have an opportunity to share their message, and it’s really a way for everyone to come to the Bottom with love in their hearts and a smile on their face, and to unite us with music,” Williams said.

Williams further explained that attendees can expect to enjoy a variety of different genres of music.

“You name it and we have it. We have a Latin horn band, we have punk, we have rock, we have jazz, we have drone folk, we have country, we have pop, dance, it’s amazing,” Williams said.

At last year’s event, Williams said there were about 5,000 attendees comprised of music lovers.

Williams added that a major focus of the event is shining a spotlight on local artists amidst the massive expanse of the global music industry.

As for the VIP area, where folks will have certain perks and special entertainment, Williams said there is much to enjoy.

“They’ll get more shade, they’ll get their own porta potty which is always nice, we have the Sugar Hollows and the Sweet Potatoes in that area, they’ll have appetizers, drink tickets, so just a little reprieve for the massive crowd,” Williams said.

The main event is completely free, but VIP tickets are $80.40, according to Williams. VIPs will get a little swag bag with goodies like shirts, drink coozies and stickers.

804 Day will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2 at the 17th Street Farmer’s Market in Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom area.

Williams recommended that attendees hydrate so they can enjoy the event despite high temperatures forecasted for the day.
