    Remembering David Johnson: Ridgecrest Navy Veteran dies at 64

    BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — David Lee Johnson, a Ridgecrest Navy veteran and the founder of High Desert News has died at the age of 64.

    For over 20 years, Johnson served his community and put his love of journalism to good use. In 2016, Johnson and 17 News worked together to provide extensive coverage of the Erskine Creek Fire, earning him an Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

    The Minnesota native died on July 5 from health complications. Johnson leaves behind a wife, daughter and two sons.

    David Lee Johnson was 64 years old.
