Jackson County aquatics center faces setbacks; unlikely to open by Labor Day
CULLOWHEE, N.C. (WLOS) — New pools at the Cullowhee Recreation Center were hoped to be open this summer, but county leaders say the project is running into delays. Jackson County voters approved a $20 million general obligation bond in the fall of 2020 to build an aquatics center, with a 2.5-cent property tax increase needed to cover the debt.
Asheville airport adds another screening lane to meet passenger demand
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) said TSA installed a fourth security screening lane to meet passenger demand. According to the airport, it has experienced historic growth with over 2.2 million passengers in 2023. This summer, the airport has experienced two record-breaking days with over 6,400 passengers screened in one day.
Abortion ruling likely keeps North Carolina a destination

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — A driver died on July 26 following a high-speed crash that occurred on Exit 40, the Asheville Regional Airport exit, on Interstate 26 West, according to the North Carolina StateHighway Patrol. The call came in at approximately 9:28 a.m., the Highway Patrol told News 13.
Asheville police investigating after 15 bullet holes found at home on Griffing Boulevard
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — An investigation is underway after Asheville police say 15 bullets struck a home on Griffing Boulevard in Asheville. The Asheville Police Department responded to a report of property damage on July 25 at a residence on Griffing Boulevard. According to a news release, the resident reported damage from bullet holes to the front of the residence.
