A Belle Mead man was arrested on theft charges after allegedly embezzling more than $1.2 million from a Bergen County company over a period of more than four years, authorities said.

Sang Park, 44, was charged with two counts of second-degree theft by deception on Wednesday, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

The investigation began in December when the Ridgefield Park Police Department contacted the prosecutor's office regarding an allegation of embezzlement at a company based in the village. Investigators determined that Park, an employee of the company, used various payroll and expense systems to manipulate his pay from 2018 through 2022. Authorities did not release the name of the company.

Park was arrested at his home in Belle Mead by detectives from the prosecutor's office with assistance from the Montgomery Police Department. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court.
