On Wednesday, July 24, the Port of Ridgefield announced it accepted a $3 million funding package from the Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) to renovate and preserve the historic Greely Building in Ridgefield.

    The funds include a $2.24 million low-interest loan and a $750,000 grant.

The port-owned Greely Building, located at 304 Pioneer St., is 100 years old. The port plans to develop the 10,000-square-foot brick building into a multi-use facility for lease. Port of Ridgefield Deputy Director Ethan Perry said the funds will be used to upgrade the facility’s structural integrity and electrical, fire safety and HVAC systems, all requirements to make the building development-ready.

“This funding from CERB is a game-changer for the Port of Ridgefield and our community,” Perry said in a news release. “The Greely Building project will not only preserve a historic site but also create new business opportunities, generate jobs and drive economic activity in our downtown area.”

CERB has supported previous job site developments owned by the port, including the Wisdom Ridge Business Park. CERB Executive Director Janéa Stark expects the project to boost Ridgefield’s economic vitality.

“CERB is dedicated to fostering vibrant communities across Washington state,” Stark said in a news release. “The Greely Building project is a perfect example of how strategic investments can create jobs and stimulate economic growth, benefiting the Ridgefield community and beyond.”

Port Commission Chair Bruce Wiseman hopes to attract diverse businesses, including retail and small businesses, through the project.

“CERB’s support has been crucial in helping us achieve our strategic goals,” Wiseman said in a news release. “It takes a village to drive economic growth in our community, and we are grateful for CERB’s continued investments and support.”

The Greely Building, once referred to as the “bus Barn,” was once used by the Ridgefield School District to store its buses and other equipment. The port acquired the property from the school district this year through a property swap. Renovations are set to begin late this year. The port will hire an architect and engineering firm to prepare the building for a remodel soon.

The Port of Ridgefield plans to announce more details for the renovation timeline later this year. Learn more about the Greely Building and other Port of Ridgefield projects at portridgefield.org.
