An auto dealership is leaving Jackson for the suburbs and has already broken ground.

Porsche of Jackson has stirred dirt along the northbound I-55 frontage road in Ridgeland, and officials with the company are hopeful the new dealership will open within the next 10 months.

Oscar Carter with the dealership said it was originally slated to be in Madison but after a "sticking point" they settled on the location in Ridgeland.

"We are waiting for concrete to get poured," Carter said. "When that gets done, we will be getting more vehicle allocations to get prepared and have a lot more inventory coming our way."

Mercedes relocated from Jackson to Ridgeland in 2016, joining Hyundai and Honda dealerships along the I-55 North Frontage Road area. Porsche will be the fourth dealership on the row.

"This is a major milestone for Porsche and Porsche Jackson as far as their growth," Carter said. "It's definitely something that is anticipated and looked forward to."

The new Porsche building will be a new, modern facility that will have many special features and amenities.

The cost of the project is not being revealed.

There is no word on what will happen with the current Porsche dealership, which is located on the South I-55 Frontage Road in Jackson.
