Irmo to purchase new police vehicles and safety equipment
The Irmo Town Council Tuesday approved contracts for new police vehicles, new speed radar equipment and entertainers for the next Okra Strut Festival. The council approved the purchase of four Dodge Durango police vehicles in the amount of $177,529. The council also approved a contract for $49,446 to outfit patrol vehicles with lights, push bumpers and other accessories.
CDC project to address obesity expanded to seven more counties in SC
Five years ago, Clemson Department Public Health Sciences professor Sarah Griffin co-led a team of public health researchers and Clemson Extension Rural Health and Nutrition agents to address obesity in three rural counties in South Carolina. Because the team, known as the Healthy Options Program (HOP) team, was able to assist more than 15,000 people in three counties, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has funded a five-year, $3.8 million effort to expand the program from three to ten counties.
Missing Fisherman Recoved By SCDNR
A fisherman went missing on Thursday evening on the Wateree River, right below the Lake Wateree Dam. First Responders and divers searched for the fisherman for several hours Thursday evening, but had to call off the search before 11pm due to darkness. The search resumed on Friday morning and shortly there after SCDNR discovered the fisherman deceased. According to KC Coroner David West, 38 Antonio Hernandez was found on Friday morning. An autopsy is set for Monday.
