Sick of hearing how the best part of Columbia is its proximity to other cities, one local is hoping to amplify local pride by dedicating an entire day of festivities to the SC capital city.
Richland Two names new senior chief academic officer
Richland School District Two has named Jennifer Morrison the new senior chief academic officer. “Jennifer Morrison embodies the essence of an exceptional educator. Her passion for teaching and learning is not only inspiring but also contagious. I am thrilled for our academic team and students to benefit from her extensive expertise and innovative approach to education,” said Superintendent Dr. Kim D. Moore.
Columbia hosts delegation from Ghana and Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to USA
City of Columbia officials met with a delegation from the Republic of Ghana on July 11 to build upon the sisterly relations that exist between Ghana and South Carolina. This was a portion of the Ghanaian Delegation’s three-day visit in Columbia to further explore possible areas of cooperation in regards to trade, investments, culture, tourism, and education.
Previewing South Carolina's 2024 schedule: Akron
In Week 4 of the 2024 season, South Carolina will welcome Akron to Williams-Brice Stadium after taking on Old Dominion, Kentucky and LSU the first three weeks of the season. Akron, who is led by head coach Joe Moorhead, is coming off a 2-10 season in 2023 with its only two wins coming against Morgan State and Kent State. The matchup between the Gamecocks and the Zips will be the second all-time meeting between the two with the first coming in 2018. The Gamecocks won that matchup, 28-3.

Enhancements to Wateree Dam Complete
Duke Energy recently completed enhancements to the Lake Wateree Dam that will improve water management and reduce the number of small to moderate flooding events on the lake. The project involved removing about 5,200 tons of concrete and installing new pneumatically controlled steel spillway gates. Those gates will provide approximately 14,000 cubic feet per second (more than 75,000 gallons per second) of additional controlled flow release capacity from Lake Wateree.
