A lively crowd of midcentury-modern architecture lovers gathered at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin in the early afternoon on June 8, the architect’s 157th birthday. The celebrations weren’t just to blow candles and eat cake in honor of the legendary designer, but rather to commemorate the reopening of Wright’s Hillside Theater at Taliesin following a five-year, $1.1 million restoration project. “We’re very happy to present this space to you today,” Ryan Hewson, director of preservation at Taliesin for the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, said in a speech at the theater’s reopening. “The need for this project has been steadily more urgent as the space continued to physically deteriorate.”
Takin’ it to the streets: After weeks of discussion, council OKs sidewalk cafes
Now that the City of Verona has a new sidewalk cafe ordinance, Mother Nature just needs to cooperate. Culminating several weeks of discussion on potential safety and other issues, Verona Common Council members unanimously approved a sidewalk cafe permit for Toot +Kate's Winebar at their Monday, June 10 meeting. Also approved was an amended premises description for the establishment, located at 109 S. Main St., to allow a sidewalk cafe on its liquor license.
Wisconsin Tornado Count Reaches 24 in 2024, NWS Reports
Milwaukee, WI – The National Weather Service in Milwaukee has updated the Wisconsin tornado count to 24 for 2024. According to the NWS, this update includes a tornado in Dane County from the severe weather on May 21, bringing the total tornadoes from that event to 17. Of these, 15 were classified as EF1 and 2 as EF0. The detailed report lists the length and width of each tornado, with Evansville experiencing the longest at 26.2 miles and 750 yards wide.
