RIDGEWOOD, NJ — After a week-long water shortage, the Village of Ridgewood has announced that, through the cooperation of village residents, they have conserved enough water to hopefully avoid Stage-3 water restrictions through the summer.

This shortage could happen again, so the village is asking that residents remain vigilant and water their lawns only when necessary on their scheduled days:

    • Odd-numbered addresses can water on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
    • Even-numbered addresses can water on Wednesdays and Sundays.
    • Automatic sprinkler systems should be set to water between 3:00 am and 7:00 am.
    • All other watering should take place before 10:00 am or after 6:00 pm.

The announcement came after automatic sprinkler systems caused the village's water storage tanks to reach critically low levels, with water levels dropping 19 feet in a matter of six hours. The village warned that if reserves were depleted any further, they would have to issue a boil water advisory. Ridgewood residents heeded the plea to turn off their automatic sprinklers throughout the week and into the weekend, and things seem to be back on track now.
