RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Revolutionary War reenactors, children, clowns and marching bands escorted parade floats, firetrucks and vintage cars down East Ridgewood Avenue yesterday morning for the town’s July Fourth parade.

The day began with a flag raising, followed by a parade through the village, followed by a gathering at Veterans Field with food trucks, live music and a beer garden, before closing out with a spectacular fireworks show.

The village takes Independence Day seriously – an assortment of vacant chairs lined Ridgewood’s streets for a week leading up to the holiday, outlining the parade route. The 114-year-old tradition encourages onlookers to claim seats days in advance, sometimes prompting residents to secure chairs weeks before the Fourth of July parade.

Spectators watched several special guests make their way down Ridgewood’s main street this morning, including Mayor Paul Vagianos and Olympic fencer Mitchell Saron . Alongside these local celebs were elementary school students on floats representing each of the six local schools. The floats, built by parents and locals and decorated with children's help, matched the parade’s theme, “United We Play,” in honor of the upcoming Olympics.

Other parade participants included veterans, first responders, and members of various local clubs. Dads’ Night, a local band, was one of many musical guests featured in the parade. The music continued later at Veterans Field, where fireworks watchers gathered, including hundreds of visitors from nearby towns, who were drawn to the village to watch the glittering spectacle.

As night fell, the sky over Veterans Field erupted with dazzling fireworks. Whether watching from Veterans Field or Crest Road, the nearly twenty-minute-long fireworks show garnered cheers.
