I RIDGEWOOD, NJ — The village was recognized for their service to senior citizens at the recent Ridgewood Council Meeting, where they were presented with an award plaque from State Director for AARP New Jersey Chris Widelo, certifying the village as a member of the AARP Network of Age Friendly Communities and States.

The certification recognizes Ridgewood's service of their elderly population through the adoption of policies and programs, such as making their neighborhoods walkable, adding transportation options and supporting housing for seniors that’s affordable.

"Thank you all for your work on this," said Widelo. "We are very happy on the progress that we have received, and I could not be happier to present this award."

Widelo highlighted repairing sidewalks, offering transit for senior citizens and including senior citizens in focus groups for housing needs as some of the things the village is doing for its senior population.

"I have for many years that Ridgewood is a town that is known for being a great school-age community," commented Ridgewood Mayor Paul Vagianos. "It is also a place where you can stay after your children leave home."
