Hello friends! Today I want to share with you a personal family favorite recipe. This is one I would pull out when we had company coming in, as it makes your home smell amazing. Easy to prepare, this French Onion Chicken Bake features a deliciously seasoned chicken breast covered in a creamy French onion soup and topped with delicious mozzarella cheese.

Why is the flavor of this French Onion Chicken so good?

The flavor of the chicken is enhanced by paprika, garlic powder, and seasoned salt before grilling it on a cast-iron skillet pan. To further enhance the flavor of the caramelized onions, I also like to add a can of Campbell's French onion soup. I have to admit, though, that the French onion soup really elevates this recipe to a whole new level!

    Ingredients

    Yields six servings

    • Six raw chicken breasts, skinless and boneless
    • 1/4 tsp paprika
    • 1/4 tsp powdered garlic
    • 1/4 tsp seasoned salt
    • Two tablespoons butter
    • One yellow onion, chopped and peeled
    • One 10-oz can of Campbell's French onion soup
    • One cup beef broth, low sodium
    • 1/2 to one cup of mozzarella cheese

    Directions

    • Set the oven to 350.
    • Slice your onions a little thick, and add to your cast iron skillet with butter.
    • Saute until onions are tender and translucent, take them out of the pan.
    • Add a little more butter to the pan
    • Season the chicken with garlic powder, seasoned salt, and paprika; put them in the pan.
    • Cook the chicken breasts on medium-high heat for 7 to 9 minutes, turning once, or until golden brown on both sides.
    • Return the onions to the skillet containing the chicken breasts.
    • Add one cup of beef broth and the can of French onion soup. Allow the broth to caramelize the chicken by simmering it with the onions for two to three minutes.
    • Top each chicken breast with mozzarella cheese if you're using a cast-iron skillet. Alternately, put the chicken, onions, and sauce in a baking dish that is safe for the oven, then sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top.
    • Cook in the oven until the cheese is bubbling, about 10 to 15 minutes.
