Sweet Southern Sawdust Pie Is So Good You'll Forget About All Those Other Popular Pies For Dessert

I firmly believe Sweet Southern Sawdust Pie has the potential to quickly become your new favorite if you have never tasted it. We also lovingly call it "Cupper Pie" due to the measurements of ingredients, or "Trash Pie" because it's like a little bit of everything. It's also very simple to make; this recipe uses a premade pie crust and whipped cream for ease and time, but feel free to make your own!

All you need is a mixing bowl and a spoon to bring this pie together, and it only bakes for 30 minutes. I like to throw it in the oven while we eat dinner, and by the time we're done, we've got warm, fresh pie served with ice cream to enjoy next.

Sawdust pie gets its name from the flaky, sawdust-like filling. Equal amounts of sugar, coconut, chopped pecans, and graham cracker crumbs go into the filling.

    Ingredients

    • Seven egg whites (7)
    • One and a half cups of granulated sugar (1 1/2)
    • One and a half cups of ghram cracker crumbs, or about a full sleeve (1 1/2)
    • Once and a half cups of chopped pecans (you can use walnuts, but I strongly suggest pecans) (1 1/2)
    • A splash of vanilla extract
    • One and a half cups of coconut flakes or shredded, sweetened (1 1/2)
    • Unbaked pie shell, 9" (or your delicious homemade one)

Whipped cream, sliced banana for serving

    Directions:

Combine all ingredients and give them a stir by hand.

    Yes, that's it! LOL

Transfer into pie shell. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until set, uncovered, in an oven preheated to 325 degrees.

Avoid overbaking, the center will be a little gooey. Garnish with whipped cream and banana slices and serve warm.

    Cooks Notes:

    • It will resemble a pecan pie with a generous helping of streusel.
    • While still warm, cut your pieces and top with fresh banana slices and a large dollop of whipped cream, and ice cream on the side!
    • I know some of you are making the gag face right now about the bananas, but I promise you the whipped cream and bananas really make it!
    • Pie leftovers should be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to three days.
    • You can certainly add chocolate chips in your pie, a cup or less to your taste.
