Homemade 3 Ingredient Mounds Bar Recipe Is So Easy You'll Never Buy Them Again

Everyone I know loves Mounds bars! Did you know you can make them at home with only THREE ingredients? Yes! Chocolate, sweetened condensed milk, and shredded coconut. It's that easy! You can also customize this recipe by using different types of chocolate. You can use milk, dark, salted caramel, mint... it's really up to you!

    Let's get started!

    Ingredients:

Half a bag of shredded, unsweetened coconut (about three cups loosely packed)

One can of sweetened condensed milk (about a cup and a quarter)

Fifteen (15) ounces of dark chocolate chunks (or any flavor you'd like; they can be chips too)

    Directions:

    • Mix your coconut and your sweet milk together in a bowl to make it sticky.
    • Take your hands and form little rectangle or cylinder shapes with the coconut mix. Make sure you squeeze it well so it holds it's shape. When it gets too sticky on your hands after a few, rinse but don't dry your hands.
    • Place the coconut bars in the freezer for 30 minutes after arranging them on a baking sheet and parchment paper. This is very important because it allows your chocolate to stick.

    • Put half of your chocolate in a microwave safe bowl or double boiler. Microwave on medium power for 30 seconds, stir, and continue in 15 second intervals until it's all melted. For a double boiler, use a heatproof bowl over a small pan of simmering water. Carefully stir the chocolate until it melts.
    • Add the remaining chocolate and stir until melted.

This is called tempering and allows the chocolate to be glossy and have a nice "snap" to it. This is important!

    • Get another baking sheet ready by covering it with parchment paper.
    • You want to do this step in stages, leaving the coconut bars in the freezer until you're ready to dip. So take a few out at a time, add one to the chocolate bowl at a time.
    • Cover all sides by rolling it around with two forks.
    • Take the candy bar out of the melted chocolate with a fork. After scraping off extra chocolate with the second fork, lay them on your second baking sheet.
    • It shouldn't take too long for the chocolate to set if your coconut was still chilly. You'll know when they're done, of course, you can always check by biting into one!

Store them out of the sun in an airtight jar for up to five days. They will then begin to dry after that. You can keep them in the fridge but they'll actually dry up faster that way. I hope you enjoyed today's recipe; remember, you can experiment with any flavor of chocolate you like! Also a great holiday recipe, as you can make spooky bars, Thanksgiving bars, Christmas bars, ect!
