Top 5: Dillingham
You can never resist Dillingham's charms... this place is just jam-packed in beauty and wonders. It is situated in the Aleutian Islands along a gulf, making it a mesmerizing place to go into. But, you still must not fall for these features as it has quite drastic disadvantages. The lack of jobs here is a serious issue, but health care is much of a concern. Health care here is costly, and the commute time to other workplaces and areas is very long. Crime rates also are in high numbers, with you or the residents having a 1 in 70 chance of being victimized.
Top 4: Palmer
Palmer is an aesthetically pleasing place sitting on the Matanuska River. However, while we know of its breathtaking qualities, there are many reasons not to reside in a place like this. Although the education system and the cost of living are not much of a concern here, the 10% unemployment rate is. Because of this high rate of people with no jobs, poverty is prominent. Also, the high rate of poverty fuels the high crime rate here. Well, it's a shame for a place so beautiful.
Top 3: Kotzebue
"The Last Frontier" tag of Alaska fits this town, and it's that because it is located in the northern part. With a stunning landscape, who would've known that this place has disadvantages? Both unemployment and crime rates are very high, with an 8% unemployment rate and 1 in 30 chance of crimes... This place also has a weak school system. Although the average income here does justice, it still doesn't change the fact that this place has a lack of jobs. This is definitely not a place you would want to be if you are looking for a good living.
Top 2: Wasilla
This cool and pleasant-looking town has a big issue when it comes to crimes. If you live here, there is a one in 15 chance of becoming a property crime victim. If this doesn't concern you, then think about the high unemployment rate that this place has. With an extremely alarming rate of almost 11%, you will not last a day here in this place. When it comes to homes, this town has one of the cheapest offers... but there are still some of us who won't be convinced because of the issues this place has.
Top 1: Kenai
This place won't be the first on the list for nothing, as it has highs and lows — the high unemployment rate and low salary... well, if it could be just reversed. The unemployment rate sits at 7%, but why is this place higher than the places mentioned before in this list? The cost of living here is prohibitive... and medical care is not that accessible due to its location. It would help if you were someone healthy to sustain a living here, which is very hard to do.
Alaska has been known to be one of the most breathtaking creations of wonder. But, that belief alone won't be enough for you to decide to live here.
