Fort Riley man hospitalized after car strikes pole
RILEY COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just before 8:30p.m. Thursday in Riley County. A Nissan sedan driven by 22-year-old Jason Mendoza of Fort Riley left the roadway and collided with a pole at the corner of Fort Riley Blvd and Richards Drive, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

RCPD has a new teammate in their fight against crime
RILEY COUNTY —The Riley County Police Department has a new teammate in their work to fight crime. On social media Friday, the RCPD introduced K9 Kyra. She is a highly trained Belgian Malinois specializing in tracking and narcotics detection. She successfully completed her first case on July 17, 2024, demonstrating exceptional performance.
RCFD#1 holds Ribbon Cutting for New Ashland Bottoms Volunteer Fire Station #102
RILEY CO., Kan. (WIBW) - The Riley County Fire District #1 unveiled a new volunteer fire station in southern Riley County Friday morning. The new Ashland Bottoms volunteer fire station in Manhattan was celebrated with a dedication ribbon-cutting ceremony. Construction began in February of this year and was paid for with existing fire district project funds. The new station is a major upgrade over the one it is replacing, which was built in the 1960s and was outdated.

Fire department wins Manhattan Battle of the Badges
The Manhattan Fire Department is the winner of the 21st Manhattan Battle of the Badges Blood Drive. The friendly, three-way competition pitted the Manhattan Fire Department Riley County EMS, and Riley County Police Department against each other to recruit the most blood donors. Donors at the Battle of the Badges cast a vote for their favorite first responders.
County fair underway with carnival and rodeo next weekend

Manhattan man arrested for aggravated burglary
A Manhattan man is out on bond following his arrest on Monday night for aggravated burglary. 49-year-old Brian Dowling was arrested in the 1400 block of Meadow Lane by Riley County Police just before 8 p.m. He is charged with one count of aggravated burglary by dwelling for felony, theft, domestic violence or sex, two counts of possession of a stimulant and one count of violating a protection order which was a condition of pre-trial orders.
