He got to be in the WWE Legends suite during the 2024 edition of SummerSlam. There, he and brother Scott got to watch Rick’s son become the new Intercontinental Champion. Now, seeing him briefly on WWE television-and acknowledged-made some wonder. What’s Rick Steiner’s standing in WWE following his controversial remarks in 2023.

For those who may not know, or may have forgotten, let’s recap. Steiner was working a wrestling convention in 2023. Nearby was Giselle Shaw. Shaw happens to be a transgender female, and Steiner tossed some transphobic hate her way. The comments got him in hot water all around. He was booted from the convention, and top brass in WWE were not happy about things either. He was effectively in time out with the company. Which had only just inducted the Steiners into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2022.

So, what does WWE think of Rick Steiner now?

Per Fightful, for the time being, Rick is in good standing with the company. Those asked about things commented that Steiner had talked with WWE officials, promising to never do anything like that again. There have also been reports that the Dog Faced Gremlin has offered an apology to Shaw herself. However, while one has been extended, we’ve had no word on whether or not Shaw has spoken with Steiner or accepted the apology.

All things considered, we don’t see much of Rick Steiner. WWE surely did their homework, being more image conscious than ever. But, if we don’t see much from him in the coming months, I have to chalk this up as WWE did a father a solid by letting him watch his son have a huge moment. I am not expecting Steiner to become a fixture on WWE programming any time soon. But, if we avoid any future Rick Steiner controversy, who knows. So, should WWE forgive Rick Steiner over the controversy?
