Turki Alalshikh and Oscar De La Hoya just might be joining forces to deliver a stacked card featuring two of boxing’s biggest names at the top of the bill.
While ringside before Saturday’s fight between Virgil Ortiz and Serhii Bohachuk, the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority and the head of Golden Boy promotions discussed putting together anticipated fights for both Terence Crawford and Shakur Stevenson .
“We want to make the big fights,” declared De La Hoya. “If Vergil wins, we make Crawford next” he continued.
Alalshikh enthusiastically responded, “Yes, I will give Crawford a big offer to do this and let’s see. And not this only. We want to see Shakur and Zepeda.”
De La Hoya agreed to the request on the condition that both bouts were scheduled for the same card. “Let’s do it,” he said to the audience.
Both Terence Crawford and Shakur Stevenson are not officially tied down to a promoter right now. However, Turki Alashikh has a working relationship with “Bud” headlining Riyadh Season’s United States debut earlier this month when he defeated Israil Madrimov for the WBA junior middleweight belt.
Stevenson walked away from Top Rank as a free agent following his last win, a decision over Artem Harutyunyan. Both of their proposed respective opponents, Ortiz and Zepeda, are represented by Golden Boy.
Turki Alalshikh on Canelo Alvarez: He’s Not on Our Map

The announcement of a potential Crawford and Ortiz fight comes as Turki Alalshikh and super middleweight champ Canelo Alvarez verbally spar over failed attempts to put the two pound-for-pound stars against one another.
“I just announced he is not on our map…we sent a lot of interesting offers to him, and he doesn’t respond with what we think is good for boxing. And this is his right. But what bothers me is that he said respects me but doesn’t respect what we’re doing for boxing, and I don’t understand it…We give you a good offer, we give you a good fight. You don’t want it? Keep it your way.”
Over the past week , tensions between the two have heated up. Last Monday, the Saudi royal advisor tweeted plans for Riyadh Season that excluded Alvarez.
While promoting his Sept. showdown with Edgar Berlanga, Alvarez responded that he was exclusively focused on his upcoming fight . “I respect Turki, but if he wants to work with me it has to be my way,” he said.
De La Hoya, who promoted Alvarez before their partnership was prematurely dissolved, was far less diplomatic. In a scathing social media video , the former six division world champion called Alvarez an “arrogant piece of sh*t” before concluding with a middle finger.
While pairing Crawford and Alvarez will still likely be a box office success, interest in the bout has appeared to wane following Crawford’s close victory in his junior middleweight debut.
