WATCH: Chad Gable Finally Speaks Out On Career ‘Low Point’ When WWE Changed His Name To Shorty G

In a recent interview, WWE star Chad Gable spoke publicly about the forgettable period in his career when the company rebranded him as “Shorty G.”

Over the last year, Chad Gable has been one of the best feel-good stories in WWE. He has been a performer who has long been respected by wrestling fans for his impressive talents. Unfortunately, like many shorter talents that preceded him, he has been marginalized by the company’s decision-makers for much of his career.

However, with WWE legend Paul “Triple H” Levesque overseeing the creative direction of the company, Gable has been given the chance to shine and he has done exactly that. Now, he is viewed as a reliable performer who is well-rounded and deserving of TV time each week. It has made fans forget about that rough period in 2019 when the promotion changed his name to “Shorty G.”

It was a decision made by the regime led by WWE founder Vince McMahon . And it was almost universally panned from the moment it debuted. In a conversation with Chris Van Vliet this week, Chad Gable was asked about that time and trying to persevere despite being given a bad hand.

Chad Gable speaks his mind on the forgettable run as ‘Shorty G’

“I’ve often said, probably to nobody’s surprise that was a pretty low point,” Gable revealed. “I was asking for opportunities on a weekly basis at that point. I was given the ‘Shorty G’ character [and] the last thing I’m going to do is scoff at it and not give it whatever I can. Whatever I can is going to go into that. Because I asked for it.

“So I did the most I could with it. I think what it showed was I am willing to contribute in whatever manner and whatever’s asked of me.”

Thankfully for wrestling fans, the former WWE and NXT tag champion is a consummate professional and did the best he could in a difficult situation. It paid off and he was given the opportunity that helped make him a notable part of WWE Raw content each week.

Chad Gable signed a new multi-year contract with the company in July.
