It’s time for our SmackDown results for August 16th, 2024, with one underlying story for the show being “as the Bloodline turns”

    Quick Results

    • Carmelo Hayes finally gets a win over Andrade. Post-match, it was almost as though Hayes might have extended a hand. He grabbed to turn Andrade around and El Idolo decked him. Andrade has a 2-1 lead in the series, but I doubt this is over.
    • Blair Davenport scores a big win over Naomi. Could call it an upset if you wish, but it is good to see fresh faces getting over.
    • Kevin Owens defeats Grayson Waller. After the match, Waller and Theory kept things going. Cody Rhodes ran down to aid Owens.
    • The Street Profits defeat DIY in a great tag match. With the victory, the Profits become the #1 contenders

    Best Match

I am beginning to think that any time Carmelo Hayes and Andrade wrestle, they get this by default. I don’t know if the two are hungry or motivated or they just click, but they’ve put on some really excellent television matches the last few weeks. And on any other show, your main event between the Profits and DIY might very well have done it.

    Worst Match

    Nothing to complain about tonight

    Noteworthy Moments

For a second there, I thought Nia Jax was getting mad at what Tiffany put together for her party. Like so mad that I thought we could see one turn on the other. Perhaps this was planting those seeds, or perhaps it’s just wishful thinking. Instead, we got Mia Yim and a kendo stick pummeling mostly Pretty Deadly. Stratton took a few shots, but I don’t think Michin got any in on Nia.

Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga with an interesting segment. Tonga wants to destroy Roman. Solo said that if Reigns regains the Ula Fala and becomes Tribal Chief, both he and Tama Tonga will ackowledge Roman again. That felt rather significant.

And in a sad note, not long after Sika passed, Afa has passed away as well.

    Surprise Moments

I mean, mild, but not really. Given SmackDown was in Orlando, it made sense. Both primary NXT Champions-Ethan Page and Roxanne Perez-were shown in the crowd. So too were Trick Williams and Titus O’Neill.

Not so much a surprise, but on the heels of the death of Afa, it was a touch surprising that Roman Reigns was on the show. I half expected it would be a justification to miss, given the family loss. But he was there. He regained the Ula Fala. But he also met, on television for the first time, Jacob Fatu. While Reigns stood tall on his return to SmackDown last week, it was a much different result this time around.

That beat down should have happened last week, considering the numbers. I suppose it was a way to further sell just how much of a threat Fatu can be. But the group needed to destroy the single Superstar, so that we can see the OTC call in some backup. It is all part of the plan. And overall, as our SmackDown results should reflect, it was another strong show.
