Rich Swann made a name as a fast moving, high flying cruiserweight performer. For me personally, I came to know Swann thanks to WWE and the Cruiserweight Classic, along with that notable purple strap. He has bounced around, with his best work in both WWE and TNA . But, as with many wrestlers before him, he has had his demons. Even before he became a professional wrestler, he was wrestling with substance abuse. Unfortunately, he may have put those demons away, but they’ve often come back.

And they’ve recently come back again.

Swann was arrested in Florida back in June. According to the charges include disorderly public intoxication and causing a disturbance. This is the second time in as many years that Swann has caught charges. This time, because of his substance abuse issues and recent arrest, he’s going to rehab.

Post Wrestling reached out to TNA, Swann’s current employer, for comment about his recent issues. Per the report, TNA only learned of his June arrest when the publication reached out to them for comment. That probably didn’t sit well with them, but that’s just my hunch. Either way, regardless of what they knew and when they knew it, TNA issued a statement. Within the statement, they confirmed that they would be working with Rich Swann to get him better. The wrestler’s next move would be entering rehab.

It’s never good timing for something like this, and we hope he gets the help he needs. Of course, an unfortunate side effect for now is this. Had WWE and TNA considered Swann for any involvement in the growing partnership? It’s a sure bet that he’s off the table for a good while now. Not that there had been any indication of any plans. Joe Hendry is doing an admirable job in his role as new rising star, after all.
